But here at Just Say Gnome we’re just starting to offer a sculpture of this most heroic avian Progressive Social Birdocrat! He’s available either painted or unpainted. And actually there’s’ even a couple of variations of how detailed his painting can be. Prices vary depending upon how detailed the painting is. The Legend of Birdie Sanders!
Back in March of 2016 – not long after Senator Sanders had really started attracting national attention for his run for US President as a Democratic Socialist he had a surprising visitor during his speech at a huge rally in the Moda center here in Portland Oregon. Original Birdie had already been hanging out on the stage beginning to get attention from the audience – but then when Bernie noticed his little avian admirer and started talking about him, Birdie suddenly jumped up and landed right in front of Bernie on the Senator’s podium – hanging out with him for a while before taking off! (check out the video of the real time event below)
– and though I’m not clear on what Birdie himself was tweeting [ here’s Bernie’s Tweet about the event ].
The incident of course inspired a minor but still impressive Meme storm. ( though it can’t quite compare with the Bernie-in-Mittens meme – it was still quite something for that point in time in the early Meme Era.
[ – and just to be clear I or rather us here at Just Say Gnome didn’t create any of these images. They’re done by various talented artists whose work can be found through a basic Google search. I’ve just gathered them all up here for your edutainment. Some of the artist names are included in the image – and if anyone has anymore information about their authorship please feel free to pass that one to us and we’ll include it as a caption under the image. – and while many creators of Birdie art memes embraced Bernie’s interpretation of Birdie as representing the dove of peace – others took their memes in more militant directions:

And then of course there was the whole Snow White / Bernie thing!
I really don’t know quite what to say about that. but I like it!

And Birdie became more of a general symbol of the Sanders campaign too: and as we’ll see soon one particular Birdie image even became a standard icon on Senator Sanders’ main website.

Then there were the look-alike images. Apparently based on a real bird photo or two. and maybe some of them on imagination too. : )

And I think these Bald Eagle – Bernie images were even from before the ‘Birdie Event’!

And then there were the cartoonified images of Birdie himself(?) – and as you can see there have been several versions:

But ultimately the image that really stuck and caught on the most seems to be this – the classic ‘Birdie’ image. Bernie even seems to have adopted it as his official symbolic Birdie representation – featuring the image on the tab above the URL of his website!:

So this modern classic image of Birdie is the one we mainly tried to stay true to in sculpting the Just Say Gnome version of Birdie Sanders.
